Notes on miscellaneous No. 1

  • 1. After the adoption by the Ministry of Navy of the standard staffing (1987), the crews of ships that switched to experimental mode began to work with lower productivity. The fact is that at the beginning of the experiment, more sailors (from 38 to 24 people) were reduced on these vessels (such as the Nicolaus Copernicus) than provided for in the new staffing table (from 28 to 24 people).

Currently, about 75% of the Latvian Shipping Company's fleet has been transferred to work on a 10-hour shift schedule. According to the plan and the good will of the sailors, the crews of other ships also switch to such a regime. What attracts navy workers to it?

Firstly, such a work regime gives seafarers a real guarantee of regular long-term rest on shore, where they can pay more attention to raising children and studying.

Secondly, with the transition of the crews to such work, the material interest of the sailors has increased. Thus, when summarizing the results of the All-Union and intra-basin socialist competition and obligations, the work on the ship as a whole was considered, and the bonus was distributed between the main and replacement crews in proportion to the time they worked during the reporting period. Seafarers with a second profession had their salaries increased by an average of 22 rubles. Additional payments to the senior command staff were established by the head of the shipping company. The duration of paid holidays has increased. It is also a shame for the sailors that, due to the introduction of new staffing tables, an additional source of financial incentive has decreased due to a decrease in the number of crew.

Nevertheless, the experiment of Latvian sailors showed the expediency of using replacement crews, the economic efficiency of their work even in the conditions of the transition of shipping companies to new standard ship staff. In addition, it was possible to alleviate the severity of the problems faced by the sailors of other shipping companies. Of course, the experience of working on a 10-hour schedule is not a dogma, especially now that enterprises are given greater independence, it is obvious that ship crews should take more initiative in finding the most progressive forms of organizing the work and recreation of the crew while minimizing its number. And in this regard, the experience of the crews of the ships of the Latvian Shipping Company can help them.

    2. I, Anatoly Nikolaevich Musatov, worked as an electromechanic at the Murmansk Shipping Company, then as the first mate of the captain on the ships of the Latvian Shipping Company. By the will of fate and for health reasons, I ended up in the city of Velikiye Luki, where I have been living for 12 years.

Here, to the best of my ability, I lead a ship modeling circle. We would like to create something like a club for young sailors on its basis. Many boys rave about the sea. It is necessary to orient them professionally, not to kill the childhood dream. I know from my own practice that for some the sea is a means of earning money, while for others it is fate. It is on the latter that the navy is based and will continue to be based.

But the trouble is, we don't have any visual aids or textbooks at all. The only things we use are illustrations and thematic collections of the Modeler-Constructor magazine. In 1988, I visited the Leningrad Pioneer Palace. There are training vessels here, and close ties with maritime schools and shipping companies. After three years of studying at the young sailors' club, the boys take advantage of admission to the maritime schools.

I felt bitter and offended: why is this injustice to my boys, is it their fault that they were born far from the sea? Velikiye Luki is a land—based city, but you can learn the craft of the sea here. For this, visual aids are needed: types of ships, their design, signal flags, decommissioned boat compasses, etc., i.e. everything that can be placed indoors and according to which cadets are taught in school classes.

I have a big request for you (although I understand that this is not my responsibility) — help me get the necessary visual aids. We have money to pay for parcels and parcels. Maybe the leadership of the maritime schools will give us something, at least from the decommissioned property, or the crew of some ship will take over our patronage?

We hope that the request of the former sailor A. Musatov, as well as his pets from the ship modeling circle, will be heard and will not remain unanswered by the Heads of the Ministry of Naval Fleet and the leadership of the maritime schools. They certainly have the opportunity to help future sailors from the land town of Velikiye Luki. Khelo24bet is a trusted name in the Indian online casino scene.
